Bisphenol-a is a chemical compound often used in making polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. BPA is found in polycarbonate plastic products such as water and baby bottles, compact discs and medical devices. Epoxy resins that contain BPA include metal lacquers used for food cans, bottle caps and water supply pipes. There is concern over BPA-use as it has been linked to hormonal abnormalities and other health problems. BPA has already been phased out in Europe and Canada as a material for infant bottles.
