An agency of the United Nations that advocates for dialogue and an exchange of knowledge and ideas between nations in aid of achieving “global visions of sustainable development encompassing observance of human rights, mutual respect and the alleviation of poverty.” Established in 1945, UNESCO has long been recognized for its competencies in education, the sciences, culture and communication. Among its objectives is “mobilizing science knowledge and policy for sustainable development.” The agency is responsible for carrying out some of the United Nations environmental programs.
