Land reclamation can refer to the process of creating new, dry land on the seabed–modifying wetlands or waterways to convert them into usable land. It can also refer to the process of restoring land that has been environmentally damaged. For example, land that has been heavily polluted may be put on a land reclamation plan designed to remove contaminants and re-establish native plant and animal species. Land reclamation can also be applied in areas that experienced desertification–turning dry land into farm land.
