Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity used funds raised from their aluminum can recycling program to build Habitat’s 126th Fort Wayne area home. Habitat collects cans from over 500 businesses, churches and schools in the Fort Wayne area and recycles them through Omni Source Corporation. Tha Wai, a former refugee from Burma who escaped Burma and made his way to Thailand and then to the United States, has worked hard to build this house for his family. Since his approval in Habitat’s home ownership program in October, 2008, Wai has put in 400 hours of “sweat equity,” doing everything from helping with construction to working with the aluminum can recycling program.
