Imagine being able to locate the nearest recycling center, access information about the latest eco-friendly initiatives and donate to an environmentally minded organization while on the go. There’s no need to imagine now, because “there’s an app for that.” AT&T has announced the release of the new Eco App for iPhone and iPod touch, available for free in the Apple App Store. The new Eco App helps AT&T meet the goals set forth in its “One Million Eco Challenge” by connecting App Store customers with an application that allows them to quickly locate recycling facilities in their area, learn more about AT&T’s paperless billing, receive news about local eco-focused events, receive a tip of the week and even donate to the Arbor Day Foundation. The app’s Eco Ally Recycling Center Directory is powered by the 1-800-RECYCLING’s recycling location search database. Users simply enter their ZIP code or allow the device to detect their current location and then choose from a list of recyclables that include the usual suspects — plastics, paper and glass. The application also helps the user locate recycling centers for other products, including yard waste, automotive, hazardous waste, household items and more. The app also has an environmental education aspect with its eco-tip feature. A recent Fun Fact of the Week was “One tree can absorb more than a ton of carbon over its lifetime” — a very fitting tip for an app that allows you to directly and securely donate to the Arbor Day Foundation. Although the app was only recently released, 665 trees have already been planted thanks to donations from 66 people (at time of publishing). As more trees are planted, the app’s launch screen will be updated. The Eco App is very easy to use and packs a lot of information into a few screens. So, what are you waiting for? Download the new Eco App from the App Store today and be on your way to a more eco-friendly lifestyle on the go.
