Citizens and businesses are encouraged to participate. East Alabama Recycling PartnershipThe Electronics Recycling Event will provide an opportunity for citizens to dispose of used electronics in an environmentally responsible manner. Items that can be brought include: TVs, computers (monitors and drives), small kitchen appliances, video games, cords, cell phones, DVD players and tapes. EARP is working with Creative Recycling, out of Palmetto, Georgia, to recycle the obsolete items. For more information on Creative Recycling, see crserecycling.com. The only cost associated with the event is a $10 fee for the disposal of each TV. Citizens will also have the opportunity to bring papers for on-site shredding. Representatives from East Alabama Shredding & Security will be collecting unwanted documents for shredding. Appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, hot water heaters and freezers may also be brought to the event for recycling. The East Alabama Recycling Partnership is composed of Auburn University, City of Auburn, City of Opelika and Lee County. The group was formed in 2009 in effort to combine resources and expertise with plans to create a combined recycling program. Since the formation of this partnership, they have received grants from ADEM totaling $306,470 for equipment and materials.
