This is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling — a day to educate and motivate our neighbors, friends and community leaders about what can be achieved when we all work together. Below are some ways to get in the America Recycles Day spirit in Austin, TX.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Recycles Day

Location: TPWD Austin HQ, 4200 Smith School Rd. Date and time: Friday, November 15, 2013, starting at 10 a.m. Event description: In conjunction with its annual health fair, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Recycles Day event invites TPWD employees to learn about recycling opportunities at home and at work. These include chances to learn about and participate in single-stream recycling, composting and household hazardous waste collection events at work. Conservation Quest

Location: Austin Nature & Science Center, 2389 Stratford Dr. Date and time: Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 10 a.m. to noon Event description: You might recycle newspaper and yogurt containers, but what else could you be recycling? Learn more about the impact of recycling in the Conservation Quest exhibit and then take part in the hands-on activities at the Austin Nature & Science Center. See a solar array on a trailer from Austin Energy and make a craft from old books with the Austin Public Library’s Recycled Reads program. Composting and recycling at University of Texas football game

Location: Darrell K. Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, Gate 14, near 23rd Street and Robert Dedman Drive Date and Time: Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Event Description: Join together to help educate fans about composting and recycling and monitor the compost stations. Sixteen volunteers are needed to join the game-day recycling team and ensure recycling and compost are properly disposed. Recycling and composting volunteers earn free entry into the stadium. Free composting class at Yarborough Branch Library

Location: Yarborough Branch Library, 2200 Hancock Dr. Date and Time: Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 2 to 3 p.m. Event Description: This class is a part of Austin Resource Recovery’s composting rebate program, which challenges citizens to complete a free composting class, downsize to a 32-gallon trash cart and purchase a home composting system. Austin Resource Recovery curbside customers who complete these three challenges are eligible for a rebate of 75% off the cost of their new home composting system, up to $75.
