Philadelphia recyclingSince 1997, people across the country have come together on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day. This is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling — a day to educate and motivate our neighbors, friends and community leaders about what can be achieved when we all work together. Below are some scheduled events to celebrate American Recycles Day in the Philadelphia area, including south-central Pennsylvania and nearby Wilmington, DE.

Magic Pots and Recycled Bottles puppet shows

Locations: Larry J. Macaluso Elementary (Red Lion, PA), Hayshire Elementary (Emigsville, PA), York Country Day School (York, PA), Fawn Area Elementary (Fawn Grove, PA), Delta-Peach Bottom Elementary (Delta, PA), Valley View Elementary (York, PA), Kralltown Elementary (Dover, PA), Yorkshire Elementary (York, PA), Mount Wolf Elementary (Mount Wolf, PA), Paradise Elementary (Paradise, PA), Canadochly Elementary (East Prospect, PA) and Southern Elementary (Glen Rock, PA). Dates: Through Monday, November 18, 2013 Event description: The York County Solid Waste Authority is sponsoring puppet show recycling programs in 12 York County elementary schools. The program, titled “Magic Pots and Recycled Bottles,” was created by Kathleen Jacobs and is presented in an assembly format. National Recycling Day at Cook-Wissahickon School

Location: Cook-Wissahickon School; members of the public can drop off items at Erb Law office, 5901 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19128 Date and time: Friday, November 15, 2013, during office hours Event description: The school’s green clubs will collect and count clean recyclable plastic bags and then reuse them for art projects. Elementary school recycling race

Location: Lyall J. Fink Elementary School, 150 Race St., Middletown, PA 17057 Date and time: Friday, November 15, 2013, from 9 to 10 a.m. Event description: Elementary school children will learn about recycling through a fun and interactive race to see which group can properly sort recyclables the fastest. Philly Recycles!

Location: Rittenhouse Square, South 18th and Walnut streets, Philadelphia, PA 19103 Date and time: Friday, November 15, 2013, starting at 11 a.m. Event description: There will be informational and educational opportunities focused on recycling throughout Rittenhouse Square. America Recycles Day paper shredding event

Location: Chase Center parking lot (look for the Goodwill truck), 1024 Justison St., Wilmington, DE 19801 Date and time: Friday, November 15, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Event description: Goodwill is teaming up with SSD Technology Partners and Office Movers, Inc. to collect outdated or unwanted electronics and office furniture for recycling, and will also offer on-site document shredding services. This free event will be held in the parking lot of the Shipyard Shops in Wilmington. For more information: Visit goodwillde.org.
