Also known as climate engineering, this field of study aims to come up with ways to deliberately manipulate the earth’s climate to counteract global warming brought on by greenhouse gas emissions. The National Academy of Sciences defines geoengineering as “options that would involve large-scale engineering of our environment in order to combat the effects of changes in atmospheric chemistry.” As of now, no large-scale geoengineering projects have been launched, most are still at the research stage, but with some small-scale trials and global modeling already completed.
