An economic system or area with has a minimal total output of greenhouse gases, specifically carbon emissions. Sometimes this is also referred to as Low Fossil Fuel Economy (LFFE). The LCE concept is a goal being set for more and more countries. Nations seek ways to become low carbon economies to mitigate the effects of global warming. Internationally, the most prominent early step towards a low carbon economy was the signing of the Kyoto Protocol. Policies are enforced to use more renewable energy and less dependence of oil and fossil fuels.
