A Material Safety Data Sheet or MSDS compiles information on the presence of chemical, physical and health hazards of a certain substance or material. The MSDS must provide information on exposure limits and safety precautions for the material’s use. MSDS’s provide data such as melting point, boiling point, flash point, toxicity, reactivity, storage and disposal. These physical data are needed in case of a spill or accident involving the substance. MSDS are needed for employees who are exposed to handling potentially hazardous substances at work, employers who handle and store these substances and emergency responders such are fire fighters, hazardous material crews and emergency medical personnel.
