Areas lush with trees, flora and fauna and characterized by high rainfall. Rainforest are habitat to 40 to 75 percent of the Earth’s living species. Tropical rainforests are considered the world’s largest pharmacy because over 25 million natural medicines have been discovered there. Scientists estimate many more undiscovered microorganisms that could prove useful. The rainforest is also vital for the world’s oxygen turnover produced through photosynthesis by all its lush plant and tree life. Rainforests once covered 14 percent of the earth’s land surface. Today they cover a mere 6 percent due to farming, ranching, logging and infrastructure development.
